Privacy
Glossator is designed to keep as little about you as possible. This page sets out what it stores, what it sends elsewhere, and why.
Your Google account
Signing in with Google lets Glossator count how many of your free explanations you have used each day. Glossator receives your name, email address and the account identifier that Google issues for this site. Its server keeps the identifier and your email address, the dates you first and last signed in, and daily and monthly counts of your explanations with their estimated cost. Your name and picture stay in the sign-in token held by your own browser. Glossator does not read your Gmail, contacts, Drive or any other Google data, and it never posts anything on your behalf.
Your papers
A paper you open stays in your browser. Glossator does not upload whole papers to its server for readers who sign in with Google. Your recent papers and your notes are saved in the storage of the browser you are using, and you can delete them from the Open menu at any time. A small number of people who hold an access key from the author can keep their papers and notes in a private library on Glossator's server, so that these follow them between devices.
What is sent to explain a passage
When you ask for an explanation, Glossator sends the passage you selected, a picture of that part of the page, nearby text from the paper (or the whole text, if you chose that setting), your reader profile and any follow-up question. During your free explanations these go through Glossator's server to Anthropic, which provides the Claude models that write the explanations. Glossator's server does not keep the passages or the answers. Anthropic's handling of this data is described in its own privacy policy, and under its commercial terms the data is not used to train its models.
Puter
Puter is optional. If you connect your own Puter account, requests made after your free explanations for the day are used go from your browser to Puter directly and do not pass through Glossator's server. Puter's own terms and privacy policy apply to that account and to those requests.
Visitor counts
Glossator uses GoatCounter to count page visits. GoatCounter does not set cookies or track you across sites.
Removing your data
To remove the email address and usage counts linked to your Google account, write to aghatak@gmail.com and they will be deleted.
